Seven Tips to Find the Top Connecticut Cosmetic Dentist
When it comes to finding the right cosmetic dentist, the search is more difficult than you might realize.
Why is that?
Because there is no official certification or designation regarding cosmetic dentistry.
That means any dentist can call himself or herself a cosmetic dentist. And these days more and more dentists are doing just that.
So what can you do?
How to Choose the Right Cosmetic Dentist
When you get down to brass tacks it's up to you to ask questions – and get answers – before you settle on any service provider.
And the same is true for dentists.
To my mind there are seven things you can look for (and ask about) that will help you in your search. They are:
- Experience
- Qualifications
- Technology
- Testimonials
- Case Studies
- Location
- Likeability
Let me explain...
Experience can relate to how many years they have been doing cosmetic dentistry procedures as well as how much experience they have with a certain procedure. This is important because the field of cosmetic dentistry continues to evolve with more advanced techniques and newer technology.
This ties into qualifications.
You can ask about any additional qualifications your dentist may have.
For example, additional education or training may be required before a certain technique, procedure, or technological application may be used with patients.
Next comes technology.
Check to see that the cosmetic dentist you are speaking with is using the newest equipment possible.
Why is that?
Because medical technology costs money. And if the dentist you are speaking with as equipment in their office it shows that he or she about staying up to date with advances in their field as well as focusing a good part of their practice doing just cosmetic dentistry.
Before agreeing to any work, it makes sense to ask to review any testimonials they may be able to share with you.
Additionally, you can ask about possible case studies regarding people who had similar dental issues or problems such as yours. Be sure to ask about how many of those procedures they have performed. Make sure they have performed dozens – if not hundreds – of these procedures prior to agreeing to have this type of work done.
It makes sense to choose an office that's reasonably close to home if a few visits are required to complete all the work you need or want to have done.
However, if only one or two visits are needed for your situation, then even traveling in our two away from home might be worth it to make sure that you end up with the best cosmetic dentist for you.
And finally, there's "likability."
It may seem strange to suggest that you should like the cosmetic dentist you are considering, but it makes a difference.
A few years ago I required two dental crowns and ended up selecting a dentist who, in the final analysis, I just couldn't stand. Suffice it to say that we simply didn't see eye to eye, and I dreaded going to his office.
Most cosmetic dental work will require annual checkups.
Some dentists suggest that routine cleaning should be done by a dentist who is familiar enough with the procedures you have undergone to ensure that the cosmetic work remains in good shape.
After all, it's your dental health…
